Keymer has a long and proud history of serving the needs of children and families in Colyton and the surrounding area and values our role in the greater community.
We believe in providing a curriculum that reflects aspects of the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia and concepts of Belonging, Being, and Becoming.
In line with the Early Years Learning Framework, we work to ensure that all children:
We are proud members of this community with strong ties for over 50 years.
We pride ourselves on the relationships we have with our families and their children.
We are managed by a committee of family members who are volunteers. All parents and carers are invited and encouraged to join the management committee as this is one way they can have input and become familiar with the running of the centre. The management committee, Director and Assistant Director meet on the second Tuesday of every second month at 7.00 pm at the centre.
The management committee oversees the entire running of the centre including centre policies, financial decisions, employment and management of staff and organising fundraising events. The management committee liaises with the Director, who runs the day to day management of the centre.
Keymer is a not for profit organisation that relies on family support to function effectively and economically. If you have the interest, enthusiasm and commitment to become involved, please come forward at the AGM (held in October) or see the Director or educators in the rooms for more information. All parents, even those not on the committee, are welcome to attend our monthly meetings.
It is compulsory for at least one parent/carer as a member of the association to attend our AGM held in October each year. At this meeting, the centre’s audited financial statements and annual reports are presented to members. Elections for committee positions for the following year are held on this night as well.
At least one parent/carer per family is required to become a member of the association. This is a condition of enrolment and there are no exceptions.
Each family pays an annual resource levy of $100. This levy is used predominantly to update toys/equipment in the rooms each year. The levy is subject to increase from year to year. Upon commencing enrolment at the service from July until December, the resource levy is $50 per family.
Children receive a Keymer hat which stays at the centre; the cost for our hats is $15.00. Over the course of your child’s year at Keymer, you may be required to purchase an additional hat due to general wear and tear. You will be informed if a new hat needs to be purchased and the fee will then be added to your account. Children keep their hats when they leave Keymer.
We run fundraising events throughout the year and ask for families’ support. We try to implement a variety of events that are of interest to our families. We welcome ideas and suggestions for fundraising.
The educators and staff at Keymer are a warm, friendly, experienced and dedicated team. Many educators have been working at the centre for more than 10 years. We have names of educators and photos displayed in the rooms as well as in the foyer on our back wall. Apart from our educators who work in the rooms we also have a Director, Assistant Director, Cook, Maintenance worker and Multi-Room Educators. It may take some time for you to meet everyone.
When permanent educators are absent you may see a different face in your child’s room. We do our best to keep you informed – please ask if you are ever unsure.
Throughout the year we will have students on practicum and work experience. The students come to us from high school, TAFE, universities and other training facilities. Volunteers are welcome and strict conditions apply. All visitors/students coming into the centre have current working with children checks.
We are open 50 weeks per year, closing for approximately 3 weeks over Christmas and the New Year period only. During the year, we close only for public holidays and up to one Staff Development Day per year.
